Rooted in Sweden, We Truly are a Global Company

In 1942 Thule was founded by the Thulin family when Erik Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors put the Thule name on a
Pike Trap that he designed and began to sell it to the fisherman of Scandinavia. It wasn’t long before he added other practical things to his company’s portfolio. Business boomed, gaining profitably year after year.
By the 1960s the company began to concentrate its business on car-related products, and before long the first roof rack was born. New product categories were added in the 70’s and new markets all over the world (e.g. US, Japan) were opened.
The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions (trailers and rooftop box manufacturing). Ever since that time Thule has been in a growth mode. New markets have been opened, product categories have been launched and several companies have joined the Thule Group in the last 10 years strengthening the position of the Thule Group as world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life. The Thule Group's newest acquisition occurred this past month when Thule purchased Chariot Carriers Incorporated.
Thule is a company that truly stands behind what they say. They wanted to transform the Thule Group into a company that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle and they have accomplished that goal. About 80% of Thule products are produced in the United States. Even more shocking than that is that about 30% of their manufacturing facility is powered through solar power. Thule is one of the only car rack companies that is sold in both the US and Europe. Europe has extremely high standards that rack companies must meet in order to be sold there. Thule is truly one of the only companies who can adequately meet those high standards.
Beyond being a green company and having high standards Thule allows tries to be an innovative company. The image above is Thule's new "810 SUP Taxi Paddleboard Carrier". Stand-up paddleboarding is a growing sport in the outdoor industry. Thule recognized that and created a carrier that is perfect for SUPs. It's design allows it to fit a wide range of paddleboards. It also features straps that are made of steel reinforced webbing that creates a completely lockable SUP carrier. The carrier can also fit all the Thule bars as well as most factory installed and round bars. The versatility, craftsmanship, and sleek design of the "810 SUP Taxi Paddleboard Carrier" make it a great example of the type of products Thule develops.
